Prototype Wireman and Production Supervisor


Job Summary

Our current Prototype Wireman is due to retire after being with us for over 30 years so we have a vacancy for a practical, lateral thinking and imaginative person to join our small team. The right candidate would be responsible for the assembly and wiring of prototype electrical and electronic prototypes, subassemblies, and systems. This role involves working closely with the engineering team to ensure the accuracy and functionality of prototypes. In addition, the Production Supervisor role would require overseeing the manufacturing process ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met. This role, reporting to the Production Planning Manager, involves managing production staff, coordinating workflow, and implementing process improvements. Whilst the requirements detailed below are our ideal, our primary requirement is to replace our prototype wireman so would accept applications biased towards that role.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and wire prototype electrical and electronic prototypes, subassemblies, and systems.

  • Assemble small batch assemblies not suited to standard production processes.

  • Interpret and work from wiring diagrams and schematics.

  • Collaborate with engineers to resolve any design or assembly issues.

  • Supervise and manage production staff, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations.

  • Coordinate with Production Planning Manager to meet customer deadlines.

  • Monitor production processes to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.

  • Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Collaborate with other departments, such as engineering and quality control, to resolve production issues.

  • Maintain accurate production records and reports.

  • Ensure proper maintenance and operation of production equipment.

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in prototype wiring, electronics assembly, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and schematics.

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality control standards.

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.

  • Ability to analyse and improve production processes.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.

  • Experience of IPC standards would be advantageous
